Join The Fun!

This is an annual fund-raiser for the 4-H Program. It is intended to raise money to send leaders to 4-H Teen Conference, 4-H Camp, leader forums and other leader training activities.
Each club sets up a booth/game to sell chances for a penny (sometimes more). Drawings are held, chances are drawn, and games are played.
Clubs need to bring their own prizes for the games they are in charge of. Most clubs choose some type of candy item.
Parents need to be aware that some clubs do bring homemade food items for their games. Cake walks and cookie decorating have been popular games in the past. So if this is an issue that concerns you, you may want to caution your children not to eat the homemade food items.
Clubs may set up their booth spaces at 9:30 a.m. If your club wants to reserve a particular area for the booth ( a corner area, an area near the door, etc.), you may call the Extension Office to reserve the space. Reservations will be taken on a first call, first served basis.
When your club is making plans for the games they want to play, please remember that your club is responsible for cleaning up the booth area at the end of the day. The messier the game, the longer cleanup takes.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY Each Club booth will be given raffle tickets to give to give to game winners. Before lunch the
Ambassadors will be holding a raffle drawing from those tickets for some special items!
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND Bird House Decorating Contest! Each club needs to build or buy a bird house and decorate it. The bird houses will be judged during the 4-H Party and the winning club will receive a great prize from the Ambassadors. The bird houses will then be placed outside the windows of area assisted living homes for the residents to enjoy. This is one of the Ambassador Community Service projects for 2008.

Dear 4-H Members, Leaders, & Parents,
Our new 4-H year is off and running. Most of the clubs in Idaho County have had their first meeting and have made plans for an exciting year. Let’s all make sure we make the new members and leaders in our program feel welcome!
The 4-H Party will kick off Idaho County 4-H Week on Saturday, April 12th. Check out the enclosed flyer with all of the details for the day. Bring a friend and introduce them to the fun of 4-H.
4-H Week is a time to promote the 4-H program in your community. There are many ways to heighten the awareness and importance of 4-H. In the past clubs have put displays in store windows, held coloring contests, written special news articles and cookies have been given to supportive businesses and 4-H sponsors. Be creative and help your community celebrate 4-H Week with you!
Don’t forget the Trivia Question on page 2! The first person to call the Extension Office with the correct answer on or after March 10th will win a special prize! Congratulations to Rebecca Hinkson for answering last month’s questions correctly!
*Note to Organizational Leaders*
If you have new members in your club, they will not be getting this newsletter. New 4-H members will begin getting the newsletter once we have all the new enrollments in the computer for 2008.

All 4-H club officers and organizational leaders are invited to attend the 3rd Annual Idaho County Leadership Training Conference (LTC) on Wednesday, April 30th in Cottonwood at St. Gertrude’s Spirit Conference Center.
The Conference will begin at 5:00 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. with dinner being provided.
The conference will include several workshop sessions designed to help club officers set goals for their club, give new club officers information about offices they hold, pre-meeting planning, and conducting meetings using parliamentary procedures, as well as working with adult leaders to making 4-H meetings fun.
This is a great opportunity for Club Officers and Leaders to have fun learning and working
together.
A LTC registration has been mailed to all
organizational leaders. Club registration forms are due in the Extension Office by April 1st .

4-H Ambassadors
Your new Idaho County 4-H Ambassadors are off to a great start!
The group came back from their state training conference in Cascade ready to go to work! They have been meeting monthly and will soon be ready to come to your club meetings.
Your 2008 Ambassadors are identified on the front of every 4-H Newsletter. You will see them at all of our County 4-H events and you’ll hear them on KORT radio during 4-H week.

Call the Extension Office by April 1st to be involved for the 2008 4-H Year!!!

NEW IDAHO COUNTY
4-H SNACK BAR
The Idaho County 4-H Program has been given a wonderful opportunity! The Idaho County Extension Homemaker’s Council voted to disband last fall and has given their snack bar at the fair grounds to the 4-H Program.
While this is a great opportunity for our program, like most opportunities, it does not come without some work and responsibilities.
Bertie Forsmann of Cottonwood has agreed to manage the snack bar for us. She will do an excellent job of ordering the supplies and organizing the entire operation. We are excited to have her involved in this new adventure.
Here’s where you, as 4-H families, come in. Each 4-H Club is expected to help man the snack bar during the Fair. Six people are needed for each shift to run smoothly. We know how busy everyone is during the fair, so your club may want to recruit help from “outside” of your 4-H Club. All of the shift work scheduling will be done through your 4-H Club Organizational Leader and the Extension Office.
Every club working in the snack bar will receive a portion of the profits that are made. Until we operate this first year, we won’t know what the exact amount will be.
This is a new experience for all of us, but there is no doubt that by working together we can make the new 4-H Snack Bar a huge success!!

4-H DOG CLINICS
Idaho County 4-H Leader, Kent Mitchell, is once again making a very generous offer to all 4-H’ers with dog projects in Idaho County! Kent has been working with 4-H members and their dog projects for the past few years and is again offering to share his time and expertise.
Kent does a great job preparing the 4-H members and their dogs for the Dog Show at the Fair. These clinics are highly recommended for all members taking dog projects. Please bring your dog on a secure leash.
All clinics will be held on the east side of the Lion’s Park across the street from the Forest Service Building, behind Tackett’s Saw Service.

Horse Bowl Contest
The 2008 Idaho County Horse Bowl Contest will be held on Wednesday, March 19th, at Grangeville Elementary School. The contest is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
This competition is similar to a school quiz bowl. The difference is that all of the questions in this contest are about horses. If you want to see how much our 4-H members know about the projects they are taking, stop by and watch the Horse Bowl. I guarantee you will be very impressed!
