 YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT
Youth in Government is a project developed to promote high school student participation in Idaho County government. Students learn the fundamentals of local governance by observing and interacting with elected officials on the job.
Activities Include:
- Each student intern acts as an informal community liaison by attending County Commissioner meetings and City Council meetings from their respective communities, observing the governing process, and reporting back the agenda items of note to both bodies.
- Students research special topics, write articles, and provide information from a student’s perspective about county issues. Emphasis is placed on remaining neutral, unbiased, and informative in collecting information to be shared with county citizens. The key purpose of these projects is to make reliable current information available to concerned citizens.
- Students serve as leaders of special projects in the county like registering voters, power point presentations to groups, informational pamphlets, and technology assistance in computerizing the County Ordinances.
